Numbers

Well, yesterday's collection didn't go as well as we wanted. Greg only collected 0.1 units. This is pretty discouraging, since usually the first day is the best day. Greg had a long talk with the resident, who met with the doc in charge of pheresis. The plan is to try again today, and see how many they get. If the number goes up, then we can probably continue to collect. If not, they'll try to come up with another plan.

Lisa, I like your idea about finding a stem cell broker. I'll "Google" that.

Will keep you all posted.

Thanks for all the support.

Love,

Us

Well as much as I am excited to beat Ian to the blog, your news gives me pause to really gloat.

So is .1 like a million cells out of the 5 that they want? I'm a bit confused on the numbers thing-we all know that math is NOT my strongpoint, and you said there would be no math.

Sending smoke signals and prayers up to the Big Guy for better results.

I think I'll take out my frustration out on the rest of the shrubbery!

I know the numbers are presented in a strange fashion. They're doctors. More simply, they wanted to collect 5 units (5 million). I collected .1 of that number yesterday or 1/50th of the goal. At this rate, it is not medically wise, nor covered by insurance to continue. A new plan is in the works. So far my new goal is 2.5 which is the minimum required for an uncomplicated transplant. For a transplant expected to be complicated I need at least 1.7. With my bank account of .9 stem cells and today's collection I have 1 unit or 1,000,000 stem cells. More details as the plan develops. So the numbers present in a strange fashion because they're DOCTOR'S? No wonder! You're a Doctor and you present strangely too.....

But thanks for clarifying all this, you've made it a bit easier to understand.

The girls said a special prayer for you tonight!

Hugs from me and Mark

Ok Skibinski's, the other Skibinski's are finally making time to read the blog. What the heck is a blog anyway? As you can see, I check my e-mails and sit at the computer about once a week - if I'm lucky. But we want to keep in touch. Wish we could be there, but believe me you are in our thoughts every day.

Keep your chin up Greg, you're related to Sadie and you know how long her family lives!

As always we'll keep you in our prayers and know that better news will be coming soon. By the way, I am a numbers person, but unfortunetly I'm with the rest of them, who wants to count all those units. I have a good calculator though if you need it!
